On Monday, June 16, the Smith Township Fire Department along with the Smith Township Trustee signed a purchase agreement with Life Star Rescue of Van Wert, Ohio to provide the Smith Township Fire Department with a new 14-ft. Non Walk-in Rescue Truck.
This new Rescue truck will replace a very old, worn out and overloaded Rescue truck currently used by the Department. The current Rescue (Rescue 208) is a 1979 Chevrolet 1-ton van with a utility box mounted on the back that was originally purchased and owned by Whitley County for use at the fire station. The current Rescue use to respond to auto accidents throughout Whitley County along with Rescue 92 in Columbia City before the other Fire Departments in Whitley County purchased Extrication Equipment.
At this time delivery of the new Rescue Truck is scheduled for around December of 2008.
The members of the Rescue Truck Committee have spent many hours working on the specifications for this Rescue truck and viewing several Rescue trucks in the area to get ideas for this truck since June of 2007. The Smith Township Fire Department would like to thank the following members of the Rescue Truck Committee for their help in the job that they have done.
