Churubusco Police Log July 7-13
Monday, July 7:1 p.m., appear for court bond revocation for David Ernst … at courthouse, Karly called my cell phone, seems attorney did not want to meet at 1:30 p.m., so they had the hearing this morning!; 1:20 p.m., out on Harrold Road looking for a runaway, minor, 15 years old; 3:45 p.m., Unit has one in custody, transporting to Parkview Behavioral Health; 6 p.m., verbal warning for speeding to Nancy J. Emke.
Tuesday, July 8: 1 p.m., huge thunderstorm is entering the area; 2 p.m., had call from Robert Wilder, I tried from my cell phone and did not get through, tried again from Whitley county and still did not make contact; 7:15 p.m., dispatch, check on Precision Sharpening, all doors secure.
Wednesday, July 9: 1:37 a.m., assisted the medics on a diabetic problem in 300 block of South Main Street; 9 a.m., someone needs to call Robert Wilder. I did. He wants to speak with Officer Swinehart about impounding the vehicle in the Doub arrest. Wilder says there is no registration in the vehicle. I will have (Swinehart) call him when he comes on duty. I did advise Mr. Wilder that it would be third shift; 3:50 p.m., alert from Whitley County - all units - green pickup truck just took trailer and is now on S.R. 205, heading east … I stopped driver of green truck, while assisting him, I got the below detail (accident); 4:08 p.m., Whitley County dispatch, property damage accident at 550 North and U.S. 33, other unit is busy on theft case, so I took it for them; 5:30 p.m., assisting DTF on a traffic stop; 7:50 p.m., dog complaint at Greenwood Circle, owner has the two dogs now, but there was a third one. I could not catch him. He has a collar and a rope hanging from it so someone will miss him soon, I hope.; 9:30 p.m. called Mr. Wilder from earlier, told him that Officer Bell had put the registration in Mr. Doub’s personal effects at the jail and that he should have it … if not, to contact the jail.; 10: 26 p.m. Whitley County dispatch, box on fire in the middle of the roadway in the area of U.S. 33 and Blue Lake Road; 11:30 p.m. appears someone hit the box. I checked to make sure it was completely out, which it was.
Thursday, July 10: 5:42 a.m., fuel, 12.9 gallons; 7:46 a.m., Called to McDonalds … a state highway truck hit their drive-up sign, moving it, and did not stop to tell them; 2:25 p.m., report of possible drunk driver southbound on S.R. 33 from S.R. 9, red Pontiac Grand Prix, vehicle all over the road; 2:35 p.m., observed red Grand Prix is all over the road; 2:40, arrested Joseph K. France for going left of center and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He refused breathalyzer, but took blood (for analysis).
Friday, July 11: 1:37 a.m. Open door reported at Wilma’s; 1:50 a.m., nothing disturbed inside. I secured the door.
Saturday, July 12: 12:49 a.m., Whitley County advised they are sending a unit to the Blue Lake Campground in reference to the activitydirector’s request. She called and stated that she asked some unruly campers to leave, but they have refused and they are being loud and setting off fireworks; 1:03 a.m., arrested Joseph R. Sierra of Fort Wayne for furnishing alcohol to a minor … arrested Jena L. Schmitz, 20, of Fort Wayne for possession of alcohol by a minor; 8:30 a.m., storms moving into the area; 3:30 p.m., notice from Valero posted above desk; 6:12 p.m., warrant out of Whitley County served on Delmar E. Elswick regarding non-support of a dependent child; 8:17 p.m. assisted Sheriff’s Department with business at Collins Industrial on U.S. 33, everything is OK.
Sunday, July 13: 1:20 a.m., in Noble County area, had a blue truck with a blue tool box smashing mail boxes in the area of C.R. 875 East … now heading south; 3 a.m., large fight at M.V.P., Noble County, requesting assistance … everyone left before we got there; 4:10 a.m., citation to Brad Heath for speeding.

I’m not from around here but I came across your web page and love reading the Police reports! Sounds like a great place. Might swing by for a visit sometime.

Love reading this website about our hometown of Churubusco..the police report is very interesting. I like reading what our town police do. I’m considering a career in law enforcement after I graduate with my Criminal Justice degree…
