The Turtletown Players are geared up and ready to entertain with a local rendition of John Patrick’s “The Girls of the Garden Club.”
The play will be held Saturday night, July 26, at 7 p.m. in the Jason Smith Auditorium at Churubusco High School. Tickets are available from any cast member or at the door Saturday for $5 each.
For Rhoda Greenleaf (played by Jeri Crance) gardening is the be-all, end-all and she wants desperately to be the president of the local garden club. Standing in her way is the incumbent president, Lillybelle (Cassandra Petrie) who peppers her speech with French phrases, arrogance and an attitude that manages to irritate those around her.
Rhoda becomes obsessed with devising tactics to oust LillyBelle, pushing aside her long-suffering husband Vincent (Bob Schemm), daughter Marigold (Kayla Crance) and domestic chores.
Despite help from other club members, Rhoda is stalled until her daughter’s boyfriend Dillson (Zane Sade), the neighbor’s son, comes up with a brilliant plan to create a talking plant, ensuring Rhoda a first place prize and the position of garden club president.
But complications arise, making for lots of laughs on the way to a triumphant ending.
