Churubusco Police log - Aug. 11-17, 2008
Monday, Aug. 11:
11:40 a.m. - Took paperwork to Whitley County for Kathy.
3:15 p.m. - Call from female who is picking up her property and wants me to stand by to keep —— from giving her any trouble.
4:10 p.m. - Female has all of her property and has no reason to go back to the apartment.
4:10 p.m. - possible electrocution at BRC Rubber company.
4:45 p.m. - County dispatch, report of physical fight, 17-year-old fighting with parents. The parents gave me a chance to talk to him. I advised that until he is 18, what his parents say goes. And, if anyone from our department has to deal with him again as a minor, he will cited into the probation department. Spoke with Leslie from probation. She said he has been on probation before and if he comes back, he will be dealt with severely.
8:30 p.m. - Unit 3 made contact with —–. Set interview for tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 12:
10 a.m. - Report of loose dog in Jewel Court.
10:10 a.m. - Talked to owner. She advised the dog was in the back yard and she was unaware it had gotten out. She will check the fence.
2:20 p.m. - Unit 3 to some schoolbooks from back at the school.
2:45 p.m. - Unit 3 called —–. Had to leave a message.
3:30 p.m. - Parents on station to to get statement forms. Advised they are gutting their son’s bedroom, shutting off his phone and want him cited into probation.
3:45 p.m. - Theft subject on station for interview. I have made up my mind that he is involved. He has a real smug attitude, seems to make up his story as he goes. He admitted nothing, but I’m not done with him yet …
4:15 p.m. - County dispatch, 911 call from Greenwood Drive. A daughter has two children and is living with her mom. She has nowhere else to go, yet she contributes nothing to the household. Grandmother would put her out if it were not for the kids. She cannot be reasoned with. I advised if she wanted her daughter put out to call us.
6:05 p.m. - All units … call for assistance at the Methodist Church in Collins; male subject resisting law enforcement. Requesting an officer with a Tazer.
7 p.m. - Verbal warning for speeding and failure to sign and carry registration, Megan Nicole Lindsay.
9 p.m. - Called to block of U.S. 33. Female fears A. is going to kill her. Allen County officers are requesting I stand by. Female had a protective order, but it expired. He has been calling again. He is from Columbia City. I walked perimeter of house with female and stayed until 9:30 p.m. No Allen County officer as of yet. I requested dispatch call them and tell them I was leaving. Female still wants to see an Allen County officer. I encouraged subject to get another protective order and to let Allen County dispatch know it is an ongoing problem. Subject keeps letting him come back. There is a very large rottweiler at the residence.
10 p.m. - Out at juvenile’s residence. Picked up statement forms from parents and a plastic bag of illegal substance and paraphernalia. I will forward to probation department.
Wednesday, Aug. 13:
4:36 p.m. - Lock out at the park.
8:19 p.m. - Report of theft of purse at Faith Lutheran Church. Victim said purse was taken from office area while church service was taking place. They observed three young, Black children come into the church during the service, but did not see what they were doing. Only thing on vehicle was a light color …silver … no direction. Items stolen include driver’s license, credit cards and keys to house and vehicles.
10:43 p.m. - Report of a black Sunfire behind a Main Street bar with a child in it and no one around.
10:43 p.m. - The mother, of Columbia City, came out about eight minutes later. I got her info and told her I would be turning it over to the Whitley County Prosecutor’s office.
Thursday, Aug. 14:
11:30 a.m. Lock out in 300 block of Mill Street.
1:16 p.m. - Lock out in 7500 block of C.R. 550N.
4:07 p.m. - Allen County is attempting to locate ——. He and his girlfriend just got into another verbal argument … unable to locate him. She could be bringing an item up to the station so he can pick it up here and not have to go to her house.
5:34 p.m. - Verbal warning for speeding, D. Hughes of Fort Wayne.
5:45 p.m. - Citation for passenger restraint violation (over 4 years old, but less than 12) and verbal warning for failure to yield to R. Hartman of Columbia City.
6:30 p.m. - Noble County dispatch, they have an off-duty officer following an allegedly drunk driver northbound on U.S. 33, just coming into town.
6:35 p.m. - Arrested for operating while intoxicated, W. Johnson of Albion. Second OWI offense.
Friday, Aug. 15:
6:30 a.m. - Subject in to complain about a large dog that is often running loose.
8:30 a.m. - Out at Staunton Avenue, where I believe the dog lives. No one home. Left a copy of the ordinance and explanation of the complaint in the door.
9:45 a.m. - Citation for speeding to D. Foster.
10 a.m. - Vehicle ID check, $5.
11:45 a.m. - Vehicle ID check, $5.
3:20 p.m. - Allen County called for welfare check of an employee at local manufacturing plant on U.S. 33. Check out well-being of subject.
3:40 p.m. - Talked to subject at workplace. Everything is OK. He is stressed with events going on in his life, but is not a threat to himself.
6:25 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, report of breaking and entering in progress at Lot 12, Blue Ridge Mobile Home Park.
6:28 p.m. - Subjects were looking at the trailer and went in through a window.
6:35 p.m. - No breaking and entering. They were looking at the trailer to possibly buy it.
6:45 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, property damage accident in the rear parking lot of the school. Mullins vs Amber. No alcohol.
10:41 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, called to laundromat.
10:42 p.m. - Dell Owen advised that at about 11:30 a.m. today a young man rode his bike to the laundromat, checked a toy machine for coins, kicked the machine, saw the surveillance camera and walked over and unplugged it. He wanted to know if we could help identify the boy. I could not tell who he was. He also stated that the boy has possibly been coming in and getting into the tanning bed by prying the door open and somehow using them without paying.
11:28 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, subject called, stated his wife is extremely drunk, she left residence and is heading north toward U.S. 33. He is worried about her condition and her being too close to the highway. She is in red/white top and blue jeans
11:30 p.m. - For some reason dispatch gave this to the county units … checked the area and surroundings … I could not find her.
Saturday, August 16:
12:30 a.m. - While I was at the gas station, —- came up to me and stated that she and her boyfriend had gotten into a verbal argument earlier and she just wanted to make a record of it in case she has to go to court for custody of their child. She told me though, that the sister came over with alcohol and —- has possibly been drinking. I went to the complex where he lives, but he was not there. I found him at his sister’s house. He said that he had one beer while he was there. He tested .00 on breathalyzer test. I told him and his sister that I was getting statements from all parties and turning it into the prosecutor’s office and that I wasn’t taking anyone to jail tonight. She called later and wanted to press battery charges against —–. I told her I was getting statements and that I wasn’t taking anyone to jail tonight.
12:52 a.m. - Unit 6 came up to a property damage accident on C.R. 600N prior to going home. He gave the info to the county and their unit came out and worked it. 2:12 a.m. - Cited into court for driving while suspended with a prior for the same. R. White of Fort Wayne. Called his father to come and get the truck.
2:25 a.m. - Whitley County dispatch, —— stated his wife is outside the house screaming and banging on doors, limo in driveway … she is threatening to leave in her own car and trying to get inside.
2:28 a.m. - She left in the limo prior to me getting here … checked MPV, but she wasn’t there. Called the limo driver’s parents and left a message to have him call me or to keep for the night until she was sober and if she came back, to call us.
9:18 a.m. Whitley County dispatch, report of motorcycle northbound on U.S. 33 from Chase Road. Stopped driver of 2003 maroon Honda Goldwing in NAPA parking lot. Verbal warning speeding and improper passing.
1:15 p.m. - Female subject at station to pick up her recovered wallet.
8:50 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, unknown problem in east 700 block of C.R. 700N. Witness saw a male throw a female down into a ditch.
8:53 p.m. - Juvenile stated she would not get into the car for him to take her home … unsure what is really going on … won’t tell us anything. Due to her age, I called her mother. At first she wouldn’t even give us her mother’s name. Told her either we call her mother or I place her until we get ahold of a parent. Got ahold of mom, she said she did not want her daughter with —– after experiencing some problems. I told the girl she was coming with me and meeting her mother at the station. I said later if the subject writes a statement and there is enough evidence, battery charges could be filed on him. Mom picked up girl.
Sunday, Aug. 17:
2:02 a.m. - Allen County dispatch, problems again at —- residence on U.S. 33. Ex-girlfriend said former boyfriend has been calling and text messaging her. I looked around the area for him. Did not find him.
