A beautiful, sunny day made for a great afternoon of fun at the annual Chamber of Commerce Picnic in the Park and Chamber vs the Firemen softball game Saturday.
Chamber members grilled hundreds of hot dogs, while National City, Fort Financial and Farmers and Merchants banks supplied games, sno-cones and cotton candy for the crowd. The Churubusco Child Care Center offered a moonwalk, which proved to be a popular spot for kids of all ages.
The Churubusco Library held the last of a summer series of concerts and sponsored musical entertainment by the Dixielanders at the park.
The Churubusco Lions Club hosted an all-day car and truck show and the Churubusco/Smith Twp. Fire Deparment hosted a truck and equipment show in the afternoon.
The Churubusco Turtle Days Festival Committee made a check presentation before the game to the Churubusco Park Board. President of the festival committee, Kirk Gray, along with vice president Robin Ramsey and board members Brian Graham, Tracey Bultemeier and Christy Wood presented the $2,000 check to park superintendent Rick Krider and park board members Tom Fletcher and Pat Stanford.
Don Amber was the announcer for the 6 o’clock ballgame, which proved to be pretty entertaining for spectators. It was not the cut and dried battle of previous years with the Chamber taking the lead and the Firemen never able to gain any ground.
This year’s addition of several great female players on the Firemen’s team kept the Chamber ball players on their toes and their victory seemed to be in peril for the last few innings of the game.

Another great job by all involved. I appreciate the opportunity to play with the chamber’s team and represent the Smith-Green School. I hope this “Party” goes on for many years to come. Thanks again to everyone involved.
