Churubusco Police log, Sept. 22-28

Monday, Sept. 22:

2:41 a.m. - Whitley County dispatch: 15-ft. box truck broke down in Valero gas station’s lot. Called Smith Bros. to tow.

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 1 and Unit 92-3.

8:40 a.m. - Unit 1, Subject on station and advised his 17-year-old son ran away and he believes he is in the area of Loon Lake. The son has court today and is going to be sent to Muncie for awhile. He is thought to be at ——’s residence and has been there since Friday. No one has told the kid to come home, but they are afraid he will skip court. Not going to list as runaway until he skips court later today. Then, if not found, I will list as runaway Tuesday.

12 noon - Unit 1, Rev. Coffey came in to pick up items.

12:30 p.m. - Unit 1, talked with —– and he talked with his son a little while ago and father said when he told son about court today, the son was mad. I said as of right now the son has done nothing wrong except skip school. I said if he refuses to let dad pick him up or he skips court, let our department know and we will go from there.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 1.

2 p.m. - Lock out at Fort Financial Credit Union, white Dodge mini van.

2:20 p.m. - Unit 3, Whitley County dispatch about call from Precision Sharpening.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 92-9.

Tuesday, Sept. 23:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 92-9.

11 a.m. - Unit 1, school check.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 1.

3:15 p.m. - Unit 3, Vehicle ID check requested by Nicodemus.

3:45 p.m. - Unit 3, Whitley County dispatch, report of 911 call from M.B. He said his wife was on the way to pick up her property. She arrived with her helpers. The exchange was peaceful. I asked if he wanted me to warn them of criminal trespass if they return. He stated no, he did not feel it would ever be a problem.

6:30 p.m. - Unit 3, found an open door at Ag-Plus on building closest ot highway. Doors wide open and lights on. I called owner and he was not available so I locked the door and shut off the lights.

8:50 p.m. - Subject on station … found a female bassett hound at Volero gas station. No tag, but a red harness type collar. She is very friendly. I will take her to Doc Welsh’s pen for the night. If no one calls for her, I will take to Columbia City Humane Shelter tomorrow morning.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 92-9, Unit 3.

Wednesday, Sept. 24:

11:25 p.m. - Unit 92-9, Citation for failure to change address, Anthony Maggart.

12:30 a.m. - Whitley County dispatch, report that C & A Tool South had someone in a dark-colored van with a dent and plastic on the rear window steal some stainless steel tubing. They waited over 40 minutes to call.

6 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 92-9.

8 a.m. - Unit 3, J. Sabatino dropped off a male cat that’s been hanging around her house. I need to check at Doc’s to see if anyone claimed the bassett hound from last night. If not, I will take them both to Columbia City’s shelter.

1 p.m. - Took the sneaky male cat to the shelter. The bassett hound was claimed by the folks who live behind Mor For Less.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 2, Unit 3.

2:10 p.m. - Whitey County dispatch, accident  at U.S. 33 and Blue Lake. I called medics to check out children. Lots of glass. No one hurt.

2:30 p.m. - Unit 2, fuel, 11.1 gallons.

6:30 p.m. - Unit 2, Lock out at back parking lot of school.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 92-3, Unit 2.     

Thursday, Sept. 25:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 92-3.

8:10 a.m. - Unit 3, Whitley County dispatch, assist on a semi that is parked on the shoulder in the turn lane of U.S. 33 and C.R. 650E. Appears to be loading something from a pickup truck … Local guy sold some snowmobiles and was loading them onto the semi of the guy who purchased them. He said they did it last week. I advised them they were being very unsafe and needed to clear the area.

8:30 a.m. - Unit 3, Whitley County dispatch, report from subject on Wheatfield Drive in Thresher’s Ridge of theft … subject said she was buying a motorcycle for her boyfriend and gave $4,350 in cash for the cycle. No receipt. No title. Was to deliver the motorcycle but never returned and won’t take calls. Wants to file theft charges on ——.

9:45 a.m. - Called DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department (about theft report). … history confirmed in their county.

9:50 a.m. - Unit 3, I called and he answered. Denied any knowledge of the event. He did advise that he was sure the subject (who reported the theft) was involved and that she saw him with a girlfriend recently and that she was acting all crazy about it. Sanders stated that she calls and texts him constantly and he is tired of it. Said he would not come in for an interview, and I wanted to talk with him and get a warrant. I did advise —– not to have any contact with him - no calls or text messages and I warned him of criminal trespass if he went on her property.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 3.

4:30 p.m. - Unit 1, Whitley County dispatch, check out —- West Pleasant Street in reference to battery to her 8-year-old son.

4:35 p.m. - Talked with mother. She said her son was thrown to the ground by another juvenile because he was defending one kid and giving another kid a “noogie.”

4:50 p.m. - Stopped by th home of other juvenile on — Street. He advised he was hit by the other kid, that’s why he pushed him down. I advised him to keep his hands off of other kids and since the kids were walking home from school, the school might hand out some punishment. He wants me to talk with—- who lives on Whitley Street to see if he is telling the truth.

5:10 p.m. - Out at home on West Whitley Street to see who is telling the truth … talked with —– and he advised he never touched anyone. Went back to prior subject and the father just defended his son’s actions. I said if they would keep their hands off other kids, there would be no problem. 

5:30 p.m. - Unit 1, I talked with elementary school principal. She will talk to involved kids Friday.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 2, Unit 1.

Friday, Sept. 26:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 92-9, Unit 2.

8 a.m. - Subject found a damaged vehicle on back lot of Turtle Town Quick Lube. Vehicle belongs to J. Elliott of North Main Street. It appears vehicle hit block building  behind North Main in the alley. Vehicle has extensive damage and also blood on front door and sides. Also, back door to the apartment building has blood, as well. Took pictures of building and vehicle. Person driving vehicle had to be hurting bad. I had landlord go with me to subject’;s apartment. The door was not closed, but when went in we could not find him anywhere. I then went to his place of employment and they said he is on vacation. So, if anyone sees him, we need to speak.

10 a.m. - Found subject at his parents’ home. He was in a lot of pain and looked bad. I told him when he got out of hospital, I would deal with his accident.

8:30 a.m. - Call from A. Jones in reference to a case. Found it and faxed a copy.

10:30 a.m. - Unit 2, out at school.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 2.

2:30 p.m. - Unit 1, school check.

4:30 p.m. - Subject at Manor Apartments found a red and white short-haired bird dog. I asked J. Hans on Clingerman Avenue. if it was his dog and he said no, but he was willing to keep the dog for a few days. Dog is a female in good shape.

7:30 p.m. - Unit 1, T. M. in to advise he is getting divorced and he said he is trying to stay away from her, but she keep calling and threatening him. He is filing for divorce and filing a protective order against her. She says she has one (protective order) on him, but no record through the county. Just wants us to be aware.

 10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 4, Unit 1.

Saturday, Sept. 27:

1 a.m. - Unit 1, Work in security beer tent. one arrest for warrant out of Whitley County. No problems at the tent.

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 2, Unit 4.

2 p.m.  - Shift change, Unit 4, Unit 1.

Sunday, Sept. 28:

12:56 a.m. - Unit 6, Traffic stop for failure to dim. Laura A. Jordan. Took to Columbia City for blood test, then to county for Datamaster - went .13.

1:30 p.m. - Unit 3 Whitley County dispatch, Shoplifting reported at Family Dollar store … time lapse 12-15 minutes. Subjects left. No plate or direction of travel. They (store employees) want to see an officer.   Two males, one very large build, very black hair, one bald, obviously a body builder, one female long pony tail and very skinny and tan. She was wearing a very long blue T-shirt and had a 4- or 5-year-old child with her. They allegedly stole a shower curtain and liner and some regular curtains. Left in a blue/gray mid-size 4-door vehicle.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 1.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 92-9.

10:22 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, Alert: white semi was involved in a hit and skip in Noble County. I stopped the truck at Main and Tulley streets. Unit 57-7 came up and worked the accident (report).
