Police counsel on disobedient juveniles

Churubusco Police Log, Sept. 28-Oct. 5, 2008

Sunday, Sept. 28:

12:56 a.m. - Traffic stop for failure to dim lights, L. Jordan, Took to county for blood test, then to Datamaster … blood alcohol at 0.13. 

1:30 p.m. Unit 3, Whitley County dispatch, shoplifting reported at Family Dollar store … time lapse 12-15 minutes … subjects left, no plate or direction of travel. The (store employees) want to see an officer.    Suspects are described as two males, one large build, very black hair; one bald; one female with long pony tail, very skinny and tan, wearing long blue T-shirt with a 4-or 5-year-old child. They allegedly stole a shower curtain, liner and some regular curtains. Left in a blue/gray mid-size four door car.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 1.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 92-9, Unit 3.

2222    Whitley County dispatch, Unit 92-9, Alert: White semi was involved in a hit/skip in Noble County … stopped truck at Main and Tulley streets … Noble County came up and worked the accident.

Monday, Sept. 29:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 92-9.

11:30 a.m. - Unit 1, school check.

 2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 1.

2 p.m. - Out of service at Rohrer’s … right front tire almost flat again. Found a hole and patched it. I am good to go …

2:20 p.m. - Unit 3, Whitley County dispatch … Woodland Place in reference to dog running at large. Checked the area. Opened my door and the dog jumped right in. It’s a small male, long-haired daschund. I took it to Doc’s. The dog had a micro chip, but no owner info came up. I put him in their pen. I will wait until later tonight to give owner a chance to claim him. If not claimed, will take to the humane shelter in Columbia City.

2:50 p.m. - Unit 3, Whitley County dispatch, Detective Christie wants me to contact vice principal in reference to a 17 year-old female who lives in Noble County, yet refuses to go to school. Christie wants me to take the report and forward it to probation. Called Vice Principal Lange … due to time of day he will compile a statement for me with attendance records, discipline and correspondence with parent. Pick up tomorrow on day shift.

7:30 p.m. - Took dog found earlier to shelter in Columbia City.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 92-9, Unit 3.

Tuesday, Sept. 30:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 92-9. 

10:30 a.m. - Unit 3, school check … Middle school principal talked to me in reference to juvenile … mom said he was not getting on bus like she told him to … he was hanging out with his friends instead. I told the boy if he did not do what his mom told him that the school would call our department and he would be cited into probation.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 2, Unit 3.

2 p.m. - Unit 2, school check.

2:50 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, lock out at Family Dollar store.

6:10 p.m. - Cub Scouts here.

6:50 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, Unit 1. Call K. Topp. She is getting harassing phone calls from ——–. They were married before - four years ago.

7:02 p.m. Out at —– on W. Pleasant Street. Told subject not to call ex or any of her family again.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 4, Unit 2.

Wednesday, Oct. 1:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 3, Unit 4.

9 a.m. - Unit 3, Out at middle school speaking to entire sixth grade class about my career as a a Churubusco crime fighter … living the dream, baby!

11 a.m. - At Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in reference to funeral for John Schmidt.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 4, Unit 3.

8:05 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, caller on the line stating that subject has been drinking today … is in a red Ford Taurus heading to local store to get cigarettes and more alcohol.

8:06 p.m. - Walked out of station and he was there, stopped at the light.

8:10 p.m. - Unit 4 arrested L. Fredrick’s of Churubusco for operating while intoxicated, second offense.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 4, Unit 2.

10:30 p.m. - IGA security detail.

Thursday, Oct. 2:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 2.

2 p.m. - Unit 2, school check.

5:15 p.m. - Subjects in … juvenile and parents … seems he is having some problems with some boys at school. They said they have spoken with school, but nothing is being done. I will check with school Friday. He stated teacher told him not to be a tattletale.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 4, Unit 2.

Friday, Oct. 3:

12:28 a.m. - Unit 4, in the area of West Whitley Street … a male subject pulled into private driveway and walked across the alley. Whitley Street resident could hear yelling and arguing. Then male got back into car and left at high rate of speed.

12:30 a.m. - Found vehicle parked at high school. I talked with both subjects … female called the male to the residence, but he pulled into the wrong driveway.

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 2, Unit 4.

6:28 a.m. - Whitley County dispatch, Unit 2, lock out at Valero gas station.

7:45 a.m -    Out at school outside.

10:13 a.m. - Out at school.

11 a.m. - Whitley County dispatch, unwanted party on Wheatfield Lane. Suspect is J. Hill …  told him not to come back or he would be arrested for trespassing. He also is suspended in Indiana, but has a valid Florida driver’s license. I spoke with prosecutor and he said I was correct … Hill cannot drive in Indiana as long as it states he is suspended, even if he has a valid Florida license.

12:10 p.m. - Fuel.

12:30 p.m. - Unit 2, Call Jerry in reference to gun permit.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 2.

9:45 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, out at North Line Street in reference to female’s complaint that her neighbor’s dog came over and tried attacking her and her dog.

9:59 p.m. - Unit 4 issued verbal warning for dog/animal running at large to C. Bay of N. Line Street.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 4, Unit 1.

10:17 p.m. Whitley County dispatch, father of juvenile called in and stated 16-year-old male leaving out a bedroom window and took off on a bicycle wearing jeans and black jacket, with suitcase, is eastbound on Pleasant Street.

10:18 p.m. - I searched the area … did not come across him. I got all the info from father and entered his son into IDACS as a runaway.

Saturday, Oct. 4:

12:27 a.m. - Unit 6, verbal warning for speeding to S. Magos of Ligonier.

12:54 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding to M. Brown of Rome City.

1:20 a.m. - Unit 6, arrested for operating while intoxicated, J. Grissom of Larwill.

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 4.

10 a.m. - Unit 1, Whitley County advised runaway is back home. I advised parents they need to have him in probation Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

12 noon - Funeral detail.

2 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 92-3, Unit 1.

10 p.m. - Shift change, Unit 92-9, Unit 92-3.

 

Sunday, Oct. 5:

6 a.m. - Shift change, Unit 1, Unit 92-9.
