Best-selling Indiana author to Appear at Peabody Library April 19

1137495COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. – Peabody Public Library will be closed all day Sunday, April 12, in observance of Easter Sunday. Also, the library will be closed all day Friday, April 17, so that staff may attend training.

Adult Programs:

  • BYO Beads – Wednesday, April 8, 1-8 p.m. Use this time to catch up on unfinished projects. An instructor will be available for assistance. This is a free program.
  • One Stroke Painting – Sat., April 11, 1 p.m. The project is a glass vase and the cost is $20. Sign up by Tuesday, April 7. Registration required.
  • Dark City Movie Night – Sat., April 11, 7 p.m. “Kiss of Death” stars Victor Mature and Richard Widmark. This film includes
    one of the most famous – and disturbing – scenes in all noir. Popcorn and soda will be available. This is a free program.0336017
  • Basic Microsoft Excel – Tuesday, April 14 at 2 p.m. Excel for beginners. Participants MUST be able to use the mouse, and have knowledge of Microsoft Word. Registration is required and will begin April 4. Free.
  • Just the Facts Book Club – Thursday, April 16, at 6 p.m. “John Adams” by David McCullough is the April selection. Walk-ins are always welcome. Free.
  • Meet the Author – James Alexander Thom, Sunday, April 19, at 4 p.m. Author James Alexander Thom is Indiana’s best selling author. Thom will be giving a talk on his books and the importance of libraries. Free.
  • Modern/Classics Book Club – Tuesday, April 21 at noon. “Cheaper by the Dozen” by Frank Gilbreth Jr. is the April selection. Walk-ins are always welcome. Free.
  • Intermediate Internet – Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Learn some cool new things to do with the Internet! You MUST be able to use a mouse. Registration is required and will begin April 11. Free.
  • Women in the Civil War – Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. Julie Duvall will speak on the role of women during the Civil War, from the home front to nursing to surreptitious combatants. Free.
  • One Stroke Painting – Saturday, April 25, at 2 p.m. Project is a painted tropical canvas. Cost is $20. Sign up by April 21, Registration required.
  • PPL Friends’ Movie Night – Saturday, April 25, 7 p.m. This month’s movie presentation is “A Good Year” with Russell Crowe. Popcorn and soda will be available. free.
  • Adrian Empire – Sunday, April 26, all day. Come to the Renaissance Faire. Today, there will be war! Free.
  • Bestseller Readers Book Club – Monday, April 27, 6 p.m. reading
  • Brown Bag Bestseller Readers – Tuesday, April 28, 12:10 p.m. “State of Fear” by Michael Crichton is the April selection for these two groups. Walk-ins are always welcome. Free.
  • Learning Windows Vista – Tuesday, April 28, 2 p.m. If you’ve had to purchase a new computer, it most likely came with the Vista operatingsystem. Come and what is different from Windows XP, and how you can learn tolive with it! Registration is required and will begin April 18. Free.

Children’s Programs:

  • Preschool Story Times meet at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. Story Time themes for April are chocolate bunnies, beautiful gardens, lollipops, milk-cap caterpillars.
  • Joni Walker’s Art Classes meet on the second and fourth Thursday (April 9 and 23) at 4 p.m. Sign up at the Children’s Services Desk, call the Children’s Department, or register online. Fee is $2 per person per class to cover the cost of materials. Ages 5 and up. Limit: 30 students.
