Busco Track Ends Regular Season; Men Win First NECC Regular Season Title in School History

CHURUBUSCO, Ind. – The Busco men and women track teams finished up the NECC regular season with victories over Fremont and Hamilton Tuesday.

The men’s team capped off their season with a 92-40 win over Fremont and a 107-24 win over Hamilton. The men finished their season at 10-2 for the second consecutive year and finished 9-1 in the NECC. The 9-1 conference record earned the Busco men’s team a regular season conference championship for the first time in the school’s history.

Leading the way for the men was Jordan Hamilton who finished first in both the 110m and 300m hurdles. Brian Trump finished first in the 100m and 400m dash, while Austin Hively took first in the 800m run. Jes Percy finished first in high jump; Karsten Lehner finished first in the discus throw and fourth in the shot put; and Skylar Greve won the shot put for the Eagles and finished second in the discus throw.

The Busco ladies defeated Fremont 76-55 and defeated Hamilton 101-21.

Leading the way for the women’s team was Kayla Mathewson who placed first in the high jump and second in the long jump. Brooke Shearer placed second in pole vault, first in long jump and first in 2300 hurdles.

Tiffany LeFever placed second in the 100m dash, second in the 400m dash and first in the 200m dash. Rachel Fehring finished second in the 1-mile, third in the 2-mile, and first in the 800m run. The Busco women ended the regular season with an 8-4 overall mark and a 6-4 record in the NECC.

Both the men and women teams travel to Fairfield this week for the NECC Conference meet.

The finals for the 3200m relay and the trials for the 100m dash, 110 hurdles and the 200m dash will be Tuesday night, May 12, along with the women’s long jump, pole vault and discus throw. The men will compete in the high jump and shot put Tuesday and finals for all other running events will take place Friday, May 15. Also, the women will compete in the high jump and shot put, while the men will compete in the pole vault, long jump and discus.

Field events begin both nights at 5 p.m.

    The boys track team had one heckuva season, with the conference championship and Central Noble invitational win. Let me add my “way to go”.
