Oscar was spotted Tuesday morning at McDonald’s restaurant, hanging with the K105 FM radio crowd as they broadcast details of the upcoming festival.
He was later spotted getting a trim at a local beauty salon in preparation for the big event. Oscar will serve as Grand Marshal in Saturday night’s parade on Main Street.
The festival will end with a grand finale fireworks display Saturday at dusk in the park. National City Bank and C & A Tool Engineering made the fireworks possible through their generous donations.
The Associated Press picked up the story and it has appeared on news Web sites and in newspapers across the country since Monday. Turtle Days Committee president Kirk Gray said he has heard from people who said they saw it on a newscast in Tampa, Florida, and one who read the Churubusco story in a newspaper in Canada.
The AP story of the hunt for Oscar in 1949 and the Turtle days Festival celebration has appeared in the Chicago Tribune and the South Bend Tribune, among others.
