Whitley County YMCA offers lifeguard classes

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. – Safety and confidence is being offered through a series of American Red Cross lifeguard classes at the Whitley County Family YMCA in Columbia City July 13-17.

The classes are for those age 15 and older. Cost is $120 for members and $160 for non-members. The classes will be held from 8 a.m. -4 p.m. and all dates must be attended for participants to pass and become certified.

Participants should be able to swim 300 yards (100 free style, 100 breast stroke, 100 either) and be able to swim 20 yards and surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound brick.

Participants will become certified in lifeguard skills, CPR Pro, AED and first aid.
