A. CAROL BRANDT, 93, of Arcola, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Renaissance Village Nursing Home, Fort Wayne.
Born Dec. 29, 1915, in Muncie Indiana, she was the daughter of and the last of the 12 children of the late Albert and Mary (Stewart) Mace. She was appointed Postmaster of the Arcola Post Office by President John F. Kennedy and served the Arcola Post Office for 20 years before retiring on July 11, 1980. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Arcola, and St. Patrick’s Rosary Society. She was a member and past President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Indiana Chapter of National Association of Retired Postmasters. She was a member of the National A.A.R.P., National Association of retired Federal Employees and one of the last members of the former Waterloo Stitch & Chatter Club. She married F. Vern Brandt in 1939, in Fort Wayne; he died in 1981.
Surviving are two sons, James Brandt of Sebring, Fla. and Robert (Donna) Brandt of Churubusco; three daughters, Judy Bennett of Arcola, Jean (Frank) Blanton of Sebring, Fla. and Janelle Banks of Fort Wayne.; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great- great- grandchildren. She was the last of 12 children born to Albert and Mary. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Arcola, with calling one hour prior. Father Alex Dodrai officiating. Calling also from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at DeMoney- Grimes Funeral Home, Columbia City, with a rosary at 6 p.m.
