COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (Nov. 2009) – It’s hard to believe that once again the holidays are approaching. With the holidays comes the Columbia City Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Wonderland of Lights. In cooperation with the Columbia City Parks Department, Morsches Park will be transformed into a lighted toy land of light displays for you and your family to enjoy.
The fun begins on Friday, Nov. 27 with Toys for Tots night at 4 p.m. and a holiday kickoff party for kids. Edward Jones Investments will treat everyone to the movie “Polar Express” at the Morsches Park Pavilion, complete with popcorn and juice refreshments provided by J & J Insurance.
Goodie bags will be provided for all the children, courtesy of Midwest America Federal Credit Union. Then watch all the lights come on for the first time at 6 p.m. and be the first to drive through the park. Admission is a donation of a toy or cash for the Toys for Tots program.
The light show will continue weekend evenings through December 27. Hours are: Friday and Saturday night hours will be 6 – 10 p.m. and Sunday evening hours will be 6 – 9 p.m. with cost of entry being a free-will donation.
Sleigh rides will once again be available for selected evenings and can be scheduled through the Columbia City Chamber office at 260-248-8131.
The drive-thru light show will continue every weekend, Friday and Saturday from 6 – 10 p.m. and Sundays from 6 – 9 p.m., through Dec. 27.
Wonderland of Lights volunteers still needed
There are still a few openings for organizations who wish to provide volunteers to man the entry booth at the Wonderland of Lights. Volunteers arrive at 5:45 p.m. and can man the booth for the entire evening or take shifts of a couple of hours. Each organization will receive a sign to be placed outside the booth, notifying visitors that they are helping with the evening. Volunteers receive the donations, pass out the Wonderland of Lights brochures, and can distribute other things such as candy canes, pens or pencils, etc., to each car that goes through for the evening.
Volunteers are still need for the following dates:
- Saturday Nov. 28
- Sunday, Nov. 29
- Saturday, Dec. 12
- Saturday, Dec. 19
- Saturday, Dec. 26
