Amateur radio test sessions last Saturday of July and October

246389_ham_radioTwo Whitley County W5YI Amateur Radio test sessions will be held the last Saturday of July and October. The next test session will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 9-11 a.m. at the Columbia City Eagles Lodge, 306 W. Van Buren St., Columbia City, Ind.

Amateur Radio Club moves location of 2010 meetings

246389_ham_radioCOLUMBIA CITY, Ind. – Because of planned additional construction of the Peabody Public Library in 2010, the Whitley County Amateur Radio Club Inc. has moved all of its organizational meetings to Parkview Whitley Hospital. The meetings will be held in the lower level in the auditoriums.Whitley County ARC Inc. monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Parkview Whitley Hospital is located in Columbia City at 353 N Oak Street. All interested ham radio operators or those who hope to become licensed as operators are welcome to attend.

Amateur Radio Club meets Thursday

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. – The monthly Whitley County Amateur Radio Club meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 12,  at 7 p.m. in Community Room A of the Peabody Library, 1160 East S.R. 205, Columbia City.

The agenda for the evening will be nominations and elections of new officers for the 2010 club year. There will also be discussion and voting to possibly raise the membership dues to cover operating expenses.

Nine people get upgraded or licensed as ham operators

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (2009)  — The Whitley County Amateur Radio Club W5YI Team held its quarterly test session Saturday, Oct. 31, and nine people left smiling with a new license or an upgrade to an existing license in their hands.

The W5YI Team members present were Cathy Evilsizor / WB8ORR Don Evilsizor / KA9QWC, Dave Keiser / WB9UNL, Henry Mackey / N9HM, Betty Hopson / KC9HYW, Gary Stebbins / KC9GGV, Greg Watson / KA9DTZ, John Barchak / W9PI and Roger McEntarfer / N9QCL.

New hams are as follows:

  • Daniel L. Cummins – Technician Class – Woodburn;
  • Dennis J. Gering – Technician Class – Churubusco;
  • Linda Ann Nardin – Technician Class – Fort Wayne;
  • Paul R. Queitsch – Extra Class – Churubusco;
  • Randall J. Simpson – Technician Class – Sharpsville.

Upgrading hams are as follows:

  • Joseph D. Doyle / N9RYM – General Class – Columbia City;
  • Michael S. Lyons / KC9QHL – General Class – Fort Wayne;
  • Diane J. Sparling / K9DJS – General Class – Fort Wayne;
  • Daniel L. Zimmerman / KC9QGE – General Class – Huntington.

The next W5YI Test session will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 from 9-11 a.m. in Community Room A of Peabody Library, 1160 E. SR  205, Columbia City, Ind.
