Police issue protective orders, help intoxicated man clean up

Churubusco Police Log Aug. 18-24, 2008

Monday, Aug. 18:

3 p.m. - Out at elementary school to assist with traffic.

3 p.m.  - Call from female in reference to property … it’s on sofa. Now has no reason to be at her residence on U.S. 33 in Allen County.

3:15 p.m. - Back to the elementary school in reference to traffic detail. Mrs. Singer advised that the dump container has been moved so it should be back to normal …

4:30 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, Mr. Taylor on station to pick up property. I called Whitley and Allen counties to see if the protective order had been served. It has not. But Allen County gave their civil phone number to Taylor. They will meet him before Friday and order will be served. Meanwhile, Taylor now has knowledge of it. I advised him that if he goes on the property, he will be jailed, at least for criminal trespass until order is served.

7:05 p.m. - Verbal warning to D. Rosswurm for no brake lights.

Tuesday, Aug. 19:

7:45 a.m. - Spoke with subject on South Street about the red Pontiac parked on the road. I advised her that it will need to be moved, and that the tires or any part of the vehicle may not be on the street. She agreed to do so.

7:50 a.m. - School detail.

10:30 a.m. - School patrol.

4 p.m. - Assisted Tony on eviction on Wheatfield Court and protective order served.

4:30 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, Call Cathleen. I gave Robert and Brooxsie til 9 p.m. to get off the lot. They are waiting on a vehicle.

6:45 p.m. - Possible problem at South Main —- out with his face covered with blood and has been drinking. Got him a wet cloth and had him clean up and stay inside.

9 p.m. - Whitley County dispatch, lock out in 200 block of West Washington Street.

Wednesday, Aug. 20:

7:45 a.m. - School detail.

7:15 p.m. - Citation for speeding to Robert A. Cashdollar of Auburn

8:52 p.m. - Citation for speeding to Frank J. Chartier of Columbia City.

Thursday, Aug. 21:

3:30 a.m. - Noble County dispatch, possible breaking and entering at the storage center at U.S. 33 and S.R. 9 … got there with three other units and found it to be a building to the north making the noises heard by the person who called in.

8:09 a.m. - Citation for expired license plate, 8/07, Noe Rangel. Also, citation for no operator’s license when required. Towed vehicle. Took car to Rohrer’s. He will need insurance, plates and driver’s license to get it out of impound.

Friday, Aug. 22:

12 noon - Subject in to file a report for a lost cell phone. Cheryl Degler on McDuffee Road. Phone is black rocker from Centennial. Lost on 8-21–08 between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Carroll Middle School.

Monday, July 28:12 noon - Dispatch Whitley County, Unit 2 called, she was out to lunch; 7:40 p.m. - Verbal warning for left of center, R. Hilton; 9:45 p.m. - call advising of unwanted party at home in 400 block of South Main Street; 9:46 p.m. - subject won’t leave per his grandmother’s request … he moved back in with her, but she wants him out … he left the residence; 10:30 p.m. - DeKalb County in pursuit of a vehicle near LaOtto; 10:40 p.m. - Posted on state road to watch for vehicle; 11:14 p.m. - subject of pursuit in custody via DeKalb County and State Police.

Tuesday, July 29: 12:45 a.m.- Suspicious vehicle at Blue Ridge Mobile Home Court; 12:45 a.m. - It’s N. Pressler and he is stating that the transmission went out of his car and they are awaiting a ride from his pregnant girlfriend’s mother; 4:07 p.m. = Called to 100 block of Staunton Avenue in reference to man’s claim of neighbor sending his family harassing letters; 4:20 p.m. - Talked with homeowner. He advised a letter was mailed to him telling them if they did not keep their cats in their own yard, the letter writer was going to start trapping the cats and chipmunks, as well.  He said his other neighbor got a letter telling them to walk their dog more. He believes the neighbor sent the letters, but they are not signed. 4:25 p.m. - went to the neighbor’s house who got the other letter, but no one was home. 4:32 p.m. - Dispatch Whitley County, unwanted party at the Lucky Lady … salesman there is refusing to leave; 4:35 p.m. - Salesman did not want to leave until I got there, so it did not look like he was running away.

Wednesday, July 30: 10:30 a.m. - verbal warning, parking violation, to Stevie J. Sizemore; 6:27 p.m. - Dispatch Whitley County Welfare check requested in 9000 block of Commerce Drive in reference to 911 call ,,, spoke with Lori at Farmers and Merchants Bank, everything is OK. They are having a new phone system installed and it was being tested; 7:28 p.m. - Dispatch, Welfare check requested in the 200 block of West Pleasant Street … spoke with A. Pressler, he said he came to pick up his vehicle, but could not get anyone to open the door. He also advised that the subject will not answer his telephone calls and his vehicle is still not fixed. No contact with homeowner. I explained that this is a civil matter and he may need to go through the court to resolve the situation; 8:52 p.m. Report of vehicle driving through alley behind 500 block of West Whitley Street, no contact with driver, but I did speak with his grandmother about the complaint. She advised she would pass my warning along to him.

Thursday, July 31: 11:30 a.m. - Bank robbery in Whitley County, just occurred  at Lake City Bank in Columbia city. Suspect is White male, gray hair - in 40s or 50s - left behind Krogers on a black crotch rocket wearing blue work pants and shirt; 11:35 a.m. - Three units behind the motorcycle northbound on C .R. 400N, then lost sight of him; 12:45 p.m., searched the Tri-Lakes area … several witnesses saw the bike, but nobody saw where it went; 1:30 p.m. - Mindy Conrad stopped by station to say hi; 3:25 p.m. - Cement turtle at Point Building partially in street … B2 and I moved it back; 6:15 p.m. - Dispatch, report of a reckless driver southbound on U.S. 33, green Ford Explorer from North Carolina.

Friday, Aug. 1: 1:49 a.m. = Dispatch report of possible accident behind house in the 400 block of North Main (along the utility right-of-way). Subject had placed a steel post in his yard to keep people from driving through his yard and someone struck the post; 10:40 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding to Irma Rivera Sauceda; 3:31 p.m. - Property damage accident at on Douglas Street … Fulk and Egolf; 11:12 p.m. - Attempted to serve warrant on subject who lives on South Washington Street … he was not home … is on the road (truck driver) and will possible be home tomorrow or Sunday.

Sat., Aug. 2: 12:55 a.m. - Verbal warning for failure to dim headlights to William G. Borror of Fort Wayne; 1:06 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding to Esteban Martinez of Elkhart; 1:20 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding to Chelsea M. Doyle of Leo; 2:11 a.m. - Citation for speeding to Travis Lee Reiling of Churubusco; 5:25 - Dispatch, report of lockout at the park; 10:25 p.m. - Subject came into station to report he got into a fight with his wife and wanted to know his options. I called Noble County and they told me to tell him to go to Albion. I didn’t think that was right. I called back and told them to have an officer come to our station or to the subject’s address when available … still did not hear anything after shift change … called one of the deputies and he checked with his dispatch and the info was not given to the next shift. He talked to the subject and came to the station for a report and the pictures; 11:50 - Assisted Noble County in reference to the above domestic battery incident in Ari … arrested the wife for domestic battery in the presence of a minor.

Sunday, Aug. 3: 1:12 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding, George L. Bufink of Churubusco; 1:24 a.m. - Verbal warning for following too close to Seth A. Coe of Churubusco; 2:04 a.m. - Dispatch, report of three males in the 300 block of Mill Stone Run TPing houses and carrying a trash bag full of toilet paper; 3 a.m. Verbal warning for speeding to Jerry J. Barbre of Fort Wayne; 3:03 a.m. - Verbal warning for right turn on red when not permitted to Diona K. Merrill of Churubusco.

Sunday, July 20:

12:10 a.m. - Check garage at Main and Egolf streets, Code 702;

2:50 p.m. - Gibbs in for accident report $3;

4:01 p.m. - Signal 8 at 515 North Main Street;

4:04 p.m. - T. Brown advised that her husband was intoxicated and ran into their garage;

4:27 p.m. - Arrested W. Brown, operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated per se;

7:50 p.m. - R. Hess, East Smith Street, picked up the wallet left at station.

Monday, July 21:

11:08 a.m. - Bad storms on the way, shutting electronics down!

7 p.m. - Report at 11000 block of S.R. 205, subject with knife threatening to cut, they gave him 3 weeks to get out and he got mad and said he was going to kill himself … said he would commit himself so Allen County transported him.

11 p.m. - Mrs. Pressler came in to report on a 10- or 11-year-old boy that has been pulling knives on her son and other boys at Blue Ridge Estates off of C.R. 650 E. I gave the info to the county.

Tuesday, July 22:

6:35 a.m. - Fuel 10.2 gallons;

9:00 a.m. - Vehicle ID check;

3:33 p.m. - Subjects in to inquire if summons had been served by the Sheriff’s Department earlier this month;

5:08 p.m. - Dispatch - lock out at Valero gas station;

9:25 p.m. - Assist motorist with directions;

11:53 p.m. - Report of a possible drunk driver northbound on U.S. 33, beige Isuzu, driving really slow and pulling off the road. Caller is in a white Explorer and will follow until officer arrives.

11:56 p.m. - With above vehicle at U.S. 33 in front of Blue Ridge Trailer Park.

Wednesday, July 23:

12:15 a.m. - All units - verbal warning for driving habits, B. Fought of Ligonier;
Believe due to his age and working all day,he is very tired … tested .00 on breathalyzer… he at first refused to take the test … told us to just take him in and he would sue us … was getting very upset with (—), but I was able to get him to take it. Asked dispatch to notify Noble County of the vehicle should they receive any calls on him.

3:00 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding, R. Hamilton of Leo. He and a J. Pitzer of Fort Wayne are working at Sun Quest Tanning, putting in a floor;

11:00 a.m. - Welfare check at 106 Windsor Drive. She is OK.

3:44 p.m. - Public assist.

Thursday, July 24:

3:59 a.m. - Dispatch - report of subject laying on the side of the road on S.R. 205 near the school;

4 a.m. - Out with very intoxicated J. Hughes sleeping in front of 414 W. Whitley Street (S.R. 205) between the sidewalk and the road. Took him home to his father.

10:40 a.m. - Funeral detail.

4:10 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding, Wakeland, Robert E.   

Friday, July 25:

7:33 a.m. - Whitley County dispatch - accident, unknown, in the Anderson Road and S.R. 205 area … Lee/Vandewalker … property damage only, no alcohol. Wrote citation to Angella T. Lee for failure to yield.

9:20 a.m. - Call Denise. She really needs to talk to #2. I advised that he would be back from vacation July 28. She said she will call him then - not important enough to call him during his vacation, though.

9:30 a.m. - Filled out accident report for Lee/Vandewalker.

10:20 a.m. - Call Detective Sell at Allen county. He is looking for a C. Ladd, M/W, 19 or 20 years of age, reported to be living in the Busco area … checked Columbia City, but nothing locally. I checked with others, they have not heard of him, either.

1:20 p.m. - Property damage accident at school in front lot, pickup truck into pole; Ray, light pole, no alcohol, no real damage to the pole. The truck is a goner!

2:00 p.m. - Working on a double;

4:30 p.m. - Working on accident report for Ray;

6:45 p.m. - Verbal warning for speed and expired operator’s license, Almas, Victoria L.

Saturday, July 26:

12:56 a.m. - Assisting Noble County on woman with a gun on C.R. 400S and 200W … one female in custody, arrested for operating while intoxicated and resisting arrest. Keep tape. I put the female on the ground. Her eye got cut from her glasses. And her thumb is possibly broke.

10:10 a.m. Accident report, Lee;

11:00 a.m. - Verbal warning for speeding to Umber, Ervin C.;

8:30 p.m. - Lock out at Thresher’s Run in 700 block;

10:12 p.m. - Dispatch - report of possible drunk driver southbound on U.S. 33 just coming into town in a black Chevy truck. Subject advised they saw the vehicle leave a bar and it has been all over the roadway and hit a curb when coming into town.

Sunday, July 27:

9:00 a.m. - Subject called to complain of a raccoon in his trash can. Told him to tip his trash can over, but he didn’t want to. Gave him the number for Critter Cop.

11:20 a.m. - Dispatch - Report from subject of a White Ford Ranger, M/W driver with blue shirt made threats and pulled a gun on the subject, whose moped had broke down on Blue Lake Road.

11:40 a.m. - Checked on vehicle. Stopped at this address and homeowner advised the truck belongs to her son … she did not know his address in Fort Wayne. She said he had left 30 minutes ago.

11:55 p.m. - Stopped by the subject’s residence of above incident. Gave him a witness report.

12:20 p.m. - Contacted by subject, had him come in to fill out a statement.

12:43 p.m. - Subject’s girlfriend on station to fill out a report.

1:23 p.m. - Report of loose dogs at 115 N. Mulberry … one small black, one small brown and white … both dragging leashes … subject will keep them for now.

Monday, July 28:

12:37 a.m. - Dispatch - officer is at C.R. 400N with several minors in possession (of alcohol) and out of breathalyzer tubes … I took the long way around to drop off some; other unit got there first and transported two.

12:43 a.m. - Accident of unknown type C.R. 400N S.R. 109 … I was at the County Line and S.R. 9. I headed over there since other unit wasn’t close.

12:48 a.m. - Accident - subject ran off the road with no collision. Another unit is there and we got her back on the roadway.

1:57 a.m. - Check on report of someone possibly in Miami Village, Lot (–). The drug task force just did a search warrant on that location on the 27th … they said no one should be there.

2:00 p.m. - No answer. Made entry and cleared the house … no one found … shut off the lights and secured the home.

12 noon - She was out to lunch.
