sweet pie 6-20Pet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Sweet Pie is a beautiful, young, gray dilute tortoise shell kitty who has just a little buff on her chin. She’s a little reserved, but once you get to know her, she is a nice cat. She gets along well with other cats and is playful and quietly affectionate, although she may never be a lap cat.

Sweet Pie was born at the shelter nearly a year ago, and would really blossom if she were given a chance to have a normal life. She is available for a special $30 adoption fee, which is a fantastic price for a beautiful, playful, spayed cat who is up to date on vaccinations.

Please come in to the Whitley County Humane Shelter and meet Sweet Pie.

The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

Humane Society Launches ‘Save Our Seniors’ Summer Sale!

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Bo-13009
Bo would make a great pet for a senior and is available for adoption at the Whitley County Humane Shelter.
COLUMBIA CITY, Indiana (June 7, 2010) – Kitten season may be here, but there are many older cats available at the Whitley County Humane Society who are patiently waiting for homes and a second chance at life. To try and find homes for these “seniors”, the Humane Society has launched a “Save Our Seniors Summer Sale”, where any cat 5 years or older and cats that have been at the shelter for 9 months or more can be adopted for only $30, not including spay/neuter deposit where applicable, from now until Labor Day. The normal adoption fee is $65. Additionally, senior citizens (60+) can adopt a “senior” cat for only $20.

According to the Whitley County Humane Society, here are the Top Ten Reasons to Adopt an Older Cat:

10. Older cats are the least likely to be adopted, even though a kitten is a kitten for only a short period of time.

9. Older cats make great lap-warmers.

8. Older cats are ever-so-grateful for a second chance at a loving home, and they’ll repay your love ten-fold.

7. Almost all of our older cats are already spayed or neutered. No fuss, no muss, no bother (and no spay and neuter bills!)

6. Older cats sleep more, break fewer lamps and don’t try to bite your toes through the blankets in the middle of the night.

5. Cats regularly live into their late teens these days. These guys and gals still have a lot of years left in them – and even more love.

4. What you see is what you get – no surprises when it comes to size or personality.

3. Older cats generally adapt to their surroundings more easily – been there, done that, awfully glad to be able to do it again.

2. Love knows no age – yours or the cat.

1. The Save Our Seniors Summer Sale will not only save you money, it’ll save a life.

For more information or to meet the available cats, visit the Whitley County Humane Shelter at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

For more information, call the shelter at 260-244-6664; e-mail dirhswc@yahoo.com, or visit the WCHS Web site at www.hswc.org.

POTW Bo 6-10-10Pet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Bo is a BIG, beautiful, shiny black shorthaired declawed and neutered male cat who was born around 2005. Bo is sweetie who takes a little time to warm up but once he knows you, he eagerly seeks attention. He is also playful. He’s always been an only cat, so he might be best suited for a single-cat household. Please come in and meet this boy and see if you connect with him. He needs a good friend!

Come to the Whitley County Humane Shelter and meet Bo and see what a beautiful and friendly cat he is.

The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

Adopt a Pet: Candy would be dandy

Tags: , , , , , ,

POTW Candy 5-31-10Pet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Candy is a sweet medium-sized Beagle-mix who arrived at the shelter as a stray. Candy is an extremely entertaining dog who will gently take a treat from your hand, and hide it somewhere when she thinks you are not looking.

Shelter volunteers say they have never seen Candy consume a treat. She buries them in the stones with her nose, and hides them behind rocks. Candy loves to play with other dogs – it would be ideal if her new home had at least one other canine friend for her to play with. WCHS staff estimates Candy’s age at aproximately 3-years-old, and she appears to be housebroken and kid-friendly.

Come to the Whitley County Humane Shelter and meet Candy and see what a sweet dog she is.

The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

For more information, call the shelter at 260-244-6664; e-mail dirhswc@yahoo.com, or visit the WCHS Web site at www.hswc.org.

POTW Rossi 5-18-10Pet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Rossi is a beautiful and exceptionally friendly spayed and declawed calico cat who is good with both kids and other cats. Unfortunately, her owner got a Great Dane who liked to chase her, and Rossi (understandably) didn’t appreciate it. So Rossi is now looking for a good home.

She is a really nice cat, who loves to give cat kisses and be a lap cat. Please come in and meet this pretty girl and consider letting her join your family.

We don’t know for sure, but she probably would be fine with a dog, so long as the dog is well-trained and doesn’t try to chase her. Rossi was born in 2006.

Visit the Whitley County Humane Shelter and meet Rossi and see what a sweet cat she is. The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

POTW Phoebe 4-27-10

Pet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Phoebe is a big, spayed, short-haired dilute torbie cat who was born in 2000. She has a beautiful tabby face and gorgeous green eyes – reminisent of a mountain lion, albeit a cuddly one.

Phoebe is very affectionate, but she is scared at the shelter and isn’t sure what to make of all the other cats, so she isn’t comfortable leaving her cage to explore the room. Phoebe lost her previous home when the couple divorced; the man moved to a place that wouldn’t allow pets, and the woman isn’t a cat person. Poor Phoebe is only middle-aged and still has a lot of living to do. Please help her to spend those years in a good home.

Come in to the Whitley County Humane Shelter and meet Phoebe and see what a sweet cat she is. She will be a wonderful pet.

This cat qualifies for the Humane Shelter’s Seniors for Seniors special. If you are 60-years-old, or older, you may adopt this pet for half price. Please call the shelter for more details.

The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

If you would like to arrange a time to meet her, call the shelter at 260-244-6664; e-mail dirhswc@yahoo.com, or visit the WCHS Web site at www.hswc.org.

Brenna loves to give kisses, and pays attention to her human (at least equal the attention paid to her nose!) This pretty hound will make a loving pet.

Please come in the Whitley County Humane Shelter and meet this beautiful, friendly, and loving dog. The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

POTW Chessie 4-12-10Pet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Chessie is a young very affectionate spayed brown mackerel tabby who was brought in by local police when someone called to say that a cat was in labor under a car on the street.

They brought in Chessie and one kitten, and by the time they left there were two. Ultimately she had six kittens, who have all found their forever homes and Chessie has recently been spayed and is now ready to settle in to be someone’s loving pet.

Please come in the Whitley County Humane Shelter and meet this beautiful, friendly, and very playful cat with the mesmerizing eyes, and consider adopting her! She will repay you with purrs, snuggles, and head butts – a truly exceptional cat!

Tags: , , , , , , ,

POTW Caleb 4-5-10Pet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Caleb2Caleb arrived at the shelter as a stray, and has been there for quite some time. The staff recently took him to a community event for 8 hours, and he did not meet a stranger! Caleb greeted all ages of people like a perfect gentleman, and got along VERY well with all of the other dogs at this event. Caleb looks like a Beagle/Boxer-mix of some sort … HE ACTUALLY BOXES like a Boxer … It is too funny! This playful lapdog (he is a little big for a lap, but he doesn’t know it) does not belong in the shelter, he belongs in a home … maybe yours? Come in to meet him and find out!

If you are interested in adding this lovable canine to your family, please stop by the Whitley County Humane Shelter to meet Caleb. The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

Bradley 3-23-10 POTWPet of the Week

Sponsored by Fort Financial Credit Union

Bradley is a gorgeous lynxpoint, ragdoll-mix who has a wonderful laid-back personality. His beautiful long fur is very prone to matting, so he will need to be brushed or combed daily. He is very good about being groomed and even allowed shelter staff to shave him where he was badly matted.

If you are willing to commit to the daily grooming that Bradley requires, he will be a wonderful pet for you. Come visit him at the Whitley County Humane Shelter and see for yourself.

The shelter is located at 951 S. Line St., Columbia City. Shelter hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 2-7 and Saturday, 1-5.

Eli is a very friendly and loving approximately 10-month-old Australian Shepherd-mix who was surrendered to the shelter by his owner who just didn’t have enough time for him.

Eli is housebroken, crate trained, cat and dog-friendly – and just a really good boy.
