The Churubusco 9 and 10 year old girls All-Star Softball team recently played in the Little League sanctioned Indiana State Girls Softball Tournament. This was Churubusco’s first 9/10 year old All-Star team in 7 years. The coaches, Marissa Troyer, Kevin Martz, and Dave Pearson, only had a few weeks after the regular season ended to join girls from 4 major teams with girls from 3 minor teams. The girls worked very well together and soon meshed as a formidable foe.

After playing four close games against Ft Wayne All-Star Teams during the week of July 13th, they lost two games at home and won two on the road. Fortunately, they beat the 2nd and 3rd place teams, on the road, to qualify for the District 10 championship game played in Ft Wayne.
The girls played at Homestead in the championship game, against the Don Ayre’s 9 and 10 year old All-Stars, who were undefeated in the tournament at 4-0. The Busco ladies put forth a valiant effort, but a after few key Don Ayre’s hits and a questionable call at second base, the girls lost the sectional championship game and a chance to go on to the regional finals.
For their hard work, all of the young ladies received Little League Girls Softball medallions in a ceremony after the game. Congratulations to the team for playing hard and making it to the championship game!
